HOW TO TREAT THOSE WHO ARE MENTALLY ILL

Whether or not people are familiar with mental disorders (personally affected or have had a loved one close enough) many people still fail to acknowledge it. It isn’t an adjective or a concept that should be used to describe a person’s temporary decisions or actions. “The weather’s been so bipolar lately,” “I want to go anorexic,” “What the hell’s wrong with you, schizo?” are only a few of the ways mental illnesses have been used as a loose term. Why is that? Could it be that the human mind is REALLY incapable of grasping onto issues one in five Americans experience annually? Of course, no one is able to really see a person’s mind in its full capacity… so how do we know when someone is really hurting on the inside? The answer is simple: you don’t. Instead of cherry picking the people that are being treated as a friend, try being kind and positive towards all. It’s the least we can do in a haunting world.
